Another data point: I cleared Y->J on AA 138 (HKG-DFW) for Wed 12 Nov about 22 hours prior. Ticket puchased and SWU applied 12 weeks earlier.
When I booked, the seatmap showed 1F taken and 13J. MCE had aisles available, and coach was pretty empty.
On Monday (2 days before) it was J7 I6 and seatmap showed 11J free.
At 9am local time Tuesday (1 day before) it was J7 R6 D5 I5 and seatmap showed 8J free
at 1pm local time it went to J6 R5 D4 I4 C3 and seatmap showed 8J free
at 2:30pm it went to J3 R2 D1 I1 C0 and seatmap showed 5J free
