They can be mildly uncomfortable, but I put up with that for the sake of knowing my cash is safe. I also put my passport and credit cards in there. My overseas flights are typically around 24 hours total in the air, I can put up with it for that length of time if the alternative might be landing half way around the world with no money and no passport.
