My SO and I currently have GPUs waitlisted on a flight SFO-CDG (UA990 22 Nov) in less than 2 weeks. W-fare tickets were purchased in February when there was only 1 blocked seat on seatmap. Currently, available fare classes are J4, JN4, C0, D0, Z0, ZN0, P0, PN0, R0, RN0, IN0, I0, Y9, YN9, B9, M9, E9, U0, H0, HN0, Q0, V0, W0, S0, T0, L0, K0, G0, N0, XN0, X0, with 3 open BF seats shown on seatmap.
Doesn’t look good.

I have tried to monitor the R buckets, but have never seen anything but 0s. (I’m not aware of any automated ways to do this anymore.)
Anyway, even though it’s probably a lost cause, I would like to keep the GPU’s applied. My last 2 2014 GPUs are currently waitlisted on the same flight on 25 Dec (V fares). I’m considered pulling those GPUs and requesting a paper certificate for LH458 MUC-SFO on 30 Nov (V fare). Not sure what my chances are for that.
Assuming I fail to clear SFO-CDG on 22 Nov, I can reapply those GPUs to my 25 Dec flight in about 2 weeks.
I can hardly remember the last time I cleared a GPU from the waitlist, without spotting an R1 and calling. Does anyone think I would hurt my chances for the 25 Dec upgrade by pulling my GPUS for about 2 weeks?
