Great TR! Did you stay at the Satriya cottages on Jalan Poppies 2? I recognize the place from the courtyard and the prices. I can't believe the prices haven't changed in 8 years.

Bali is a huge island. Kuta and the bit that is the Australian equivalent to Cancun, except that instead of spring breakers is full of bogans (Australian rednecks), is luckily very small. The island has a lot to offer. I've been to Bali a good 10-11 times and I still find I discover new places and new things every time.
