On the contrary, none of the SA hotels I stayed at kept a hold on the card for incidentals - and even as I charged things to the room, I only had to pay on departure. I actually really appreciated this, as it can be a pain if you are hotel hopping, renting cars, etc - a lot of your credit can get used up when they take large incidental preauthorizations (as Thrifty did)!
