As American Airlines and US Airways are still operating as distinct airlines, this question is being moved to the appropriate pre-merger airline forum (once we know which airline this is about).

Please note the sticky at the top of the consolidated thread which is titled STOP! PLEASE READ ME BEFORE POSTING! Welcome to the New American Airlines Forum!. With all of the changes about, it is important to know where to post, and reading that thread before posting (as the title suggests ) will help get you in the right place.

As required by the Rules, thread titles should be descriptive - this will attract the attention of those likely to have answers, whereas a very vague title will often be ignored.

One can not "send" miles to another person. If you're talking about AA AAdvantage miles, one is likely to Share Miles - even though there's a current offer, it still incurs significant cost to do so. If your generous friend balked at the cost, you may not ever receive those miles if you do not offer to pay the fees.

Currently, with the 35% discount! the cost would be $780 plus $140 in transaction fees (it seems the web form only allows 25,000 miles per transfer).

The possibilities (methods, costs, minima and maxima, etc.) can be read here.

I hope you get those miles - nice gift!
