Exclamation STOP! PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING! Welcome to the New American Airlines Forum.

Welcome to the New American! We're glad you're here. This post includes some detail on how the new forum structure will work, where to find the information you seek and where to post the questions and comments you have.

New Structure and Where To Post

With the merger completed, there is now a new forum structure for American Airlines and US Airways. The structure is as follows:

  • American Airlines | AAdvantage (Consolidated) (this forum)
This new forum is for discussion of items related to the combined post-merger American Airlines, as well as the forthcoming combined AAdvantage program. (i.e., joint operations, future loyalty program, decisions that will impact the COMBINED carrier. *Remember: The carriers will be operating as SEPARATE airlines for some time. Continue to post in the appropriate PRE-MERGER airline forum if your post is strictly about that pre-merger airline)

Several threads devoted to specific topic areas have been created in an attempt to somewhat organize discussion around key topics we expect to to be popular. Please help us keep these threads focused on the stated topic so that all members can find information of interest to them as easily as possible.

    • American Airlines AAdvantage (Pre-Merger)
This is the existing AAdvantage forum, and will remain in place for discussion of items related to all items relevant to existing American Airlines flyers and AAdvantage members, including merger-related items which only affect pre-merger American and its customers.

    • US Airways | Dividend Miles (Pre-Merger)
Similarly, this is the existing Dividend Miles forum, and will remain in place for discussion of items related to all items relevant to existing US Airways flyers and Dividend Miles members, including merger-related items which only affect pre-merger US Airways and its customers.

The newly merged moderator corps will be working hard to consistently apply these rules with the goal of ensuring that content related to the appropriate forum is located in the appropriate place. As you might expect, this is as new for us as it is for you, so please be patient with us while your fellow members and moderators work through this transition. Once the transition has been fully completed, the legacy American and US Airways fora will be closed for new posts and exist only for historical viewing.

Tone and Tenor Guidelines

Having existed for years separately, both the American Airlines and US Airways fora have distinct personalities. The new joint moderator team is dedicated to bringing these two groups together in a positive and constructive way. To that end, we have developed a set of guidelines which will govern in the new combined forum going forward. These are underpinned by and extrapolated from the FlyerTalk Guidelines & Rules.

  • Be welcoming and considerate to all members, new and old. If someone starts a new thread and you know where an existing discussion is already underway, politely advise how to find the new thread and politely provide a link. Do not lecture or admonish other users for not searching. If you feel administrative action may be needed, notify a moderator by using the "Alert a Moderator to this Post" icon in the bottom-left corner of each post.
  • Since the structure is changing quite substantially, we recognise that some users will have an urge to start or participate in meta discussions (Discussion-about-the-discussion, such as its worthiness, tone, or its participants). Meta discussions tend to derail substantive dialogue, so such posts will be considered disruptive and subject to removal.

We appreciate your help as we build this new community together, and are always open to ideas, suggestions and feedback via private message.

Resources on AA and the AAdvantage Frequent Flyer Program

Realizing that many members of the US Dividend Miles program will want to get up to speed on the details of the surviving AAdvantage program, here are some key resources in the pre-merger AAdvantage forum for you to check out:

Welcome to the New American Airlines Forum! PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Many FT users find it useful to mark an entire forum read after they have read the threads they choose to read. This way all threads that haven’t changed are unbolded for the next time you access flyertalk. This is under the “Forum tools” thread.
The old AA forum is now a subforum of the new AA forum. So if you mark the new forum read, it will unbold all threads in the old forum. If you mark the old forum read, it does not affect the new forum. So, if you read both forums, you should read the old forum first, then the new forum.

(A long thread on this feature can be found here.

Arrow oneworld Explorer elimination, baggage and awards changes 8 Apr 2014

US Airways became an affiliate member of oneworld (AA affiliate) on 31 March 2014. US members have indicated they were never permitted to book oneworld Explorer awards, and given various reasons for that.

AA eliminated oneworld Explorer awards effective 8 April 2014.

Other changes have been made effective this date, including the elimination of a voluntary stopover at the North American international gateway on international awards; new baggage allowances for some flyers; new tiered requirements for AAnytime (3 levels) or MileSAAver (2 levels) awards; new terms and conditions and legal language on aa.com.

As the airlines involved are still being operated separately, there is no merged Frequent Flyer Program and no unitary policy about miles, status, upgrades, awards, etc. at this time, these issues will continue to be discussed in the appropriate Pre-Merger fora.

To recap: if a change occurs to your airline's terms and conditions or offerings, until we have a truly merged airline / FFP, please discuss these in that airline's Pre-Merger Forum.

Please keep the discussions on those fora; nothing will be served by fragmenting discussion and information across two (or more) fora.

Thank you for your understanding.

boilerplate for moving threads

As American Airlines is still operating as a distinct entity, this question is being moved over to the relevant thread in the pre-merger American Airlines forum.

Please note the announcement at the top of the consolidated thread which is titled PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING: NEW AMERICAN / AA and US Pre-Merger FORUM STRUCTURE. With all of the changes about, it is important to know where to post, and reading that thread before posting (as the title suggests ) will help get you in the right place.

American Airlines and US Airways continue to operate as separate carriers (though both are part of the same parent company through the merger), and will continue to do so for some time.

As this question relates to current American Airlines or US Airways practices, policy or operation, it is being moved to the proper pre-merger forum.
