My wife and I went there for dinner last weekend, our first time trying the restaurant. We were thoroughly disappointed. She got the veg thali plate, which included 3 or 4 items that you can order as entrees or sides and was unimpressed by all of them. She also asked for extra spicy, but the heat was very low. I had a codfish curry and it was also unmemorable. The menu is also quite small and it is a very noisy setting. When I saw comments about the acoustics on Yelp, I thought it was an odd thing to complain about, until I ate there. It's unfortunate, because this place is walking distance from where I live and I was hoping it would be a place I'd want to go back to.
In Alexandria we've had a few great meals at
Dishes of India. I've only been one time, but there's another place called
IndAroma, that I really liked. It is adjacent to an Indian market, so you can pick up some condiments, and other Indian treats to take home with you. It's kind of like a cafe. You order from a counter and they bring the food out to you. They have a few Western/Indian blends. Like you can get a caesar salad with chicken tikka on top. They also have kathi rolls, something you don't see at most Indian restaurants. I'm getting hungry thinking about that place. I need to go back!
