Prime Time Shuttle offers both a shared shuttle and a private towncar service on that route. I haven't used them in San Diego, but I've been satisfied with their service at LAX.

The shared shuttle service can be a bit slower, as they go around and drop off other people, so if it's for an older person who can't sit in the van for long then that might not work.
