AA/CX do indeed codeshare on this route. AA doesn't advertise much about their codeshare with CX, but they do.

As far as AA, it's only two months with DFW-HKG. It's hard to judge so soon whether or not this route is a money making one or not. I've heard mix things about DFW-HKG. On routes such as ORD-PVG, PEK, etc., I would agree. They're probably not making any money on it.

I agree with the strategy though. They have to fly them even if it's not making money. They have to get the brand out there. AA is weak in Asia. It's probably the same reason why CX is launching MAN, ZRH, and BOS so soon.
