My comments were for Outrigger Waikiki Beach, not Reef. That is much closer to HHV than OWB.
While I agree with the other poster about Waikiki being ultra touristy, the best of both worlds is to stay in Waikiki but make sure you get out and explore the rest of the island during your stay. Oahu is beautiful!!
