Can't compare as I've never stayed at HHV but we loved the Outrigger Waikiki Beach. Location and views were awesome, right in the middle of everything! Stayed oceanfront so we had a panoramic view of Diamond Head and all of the beach. Got an email from them today with discount code Discover for up to 40% off! maybe that will work for you. Our next Hawaii stay in 2016 will be at HHV on points but if paying for a room I wouldn't hesitate to stay at Outrigger again.
