Going to the Big E (basically a joint state fair for all the states in New England) in Springfield in a few weeks. I am immensely looking forward to eating my weight in clams, lobster, maple products, and the Kraz-E burger (bacon cheeseburger on a grilled glazed donut).

I never ventured into the midway there. I always heard so many horror stories from it. I know they still have the baked potatoes - does Vermont still have maple sugar candy? And what about Joey Chitwood?

I avoided the midway for the most part myself. I crossed it to get to the Lion's Club building for a hamburger since I usually had friends working there. Walking too close to the rides was a sure way to find puke raining down from above. What makes kids stuff themselves with carnival food only to lose it all on the tilt-a-whirl?
I thnk one of the things that makes the Big E unique is the number of permanent structures, incuding Storrowton Village, the big yellow slide and the 6 state house replicas.
