Imagine what the situation would have been if de Gaulle had been shipping weapons to the FLQ!
I always thought Trudeau should have put de Gaulle in jail and only let him go after he would retract.
But coming back to Ukraine, first, this is mainly an Ukrainian issue, second, both sides want to fight, third, both sides are more or less Nazis, fourth, they had twenty years to find compromises but instead the situation got radicalized. Neither deserve sympathy really.
With both the so-called West and Russia mainly playing realpolitik on top of the issue. Plus, of course, Putin who admittedly is not a pleasant character getting caught in his own nationalist demagogy trap. Of course he now finds himself caught in it. Not a good situation. But then I would expect no one is going to go to war for the sake of Ukrainian extremists.
