Generally going westbound is better, but when stronger air currents are prevalent, they may go eastbound to avoid a strong headwind, and/or benefit from a strong tailwind.
SQ's old EWR-SIN was notorious for sometimes going either way.

I knew SQ 21/22 used to go either way (it went over the Pacific when I did it last year) , but I never knew this flight does. I always assumed it was much closer to go West from YYZ.
Does is cross the international date line no matter which way it goes?
