If separate villas is a possibility, the St Regis should probably also be a consideration. Villas are right on the beach, and lots of people really like it. I know it is contrary to the Aman preferences here, and I found it a bit soul-less in that it didn't really feel Balinese at all to me, but lots of people really really like it. Depending on the OP's parents' taste, it might be worthwhile. The Strand Residence is pretty impressive at 1000 sq m, and the location is good.
Exactly how I felt about the St Regis! It was full of families though, and seemed to be at full or near full occupancy when we walked past their beach a few times.
I didn't like the lack of privacy in the beach villas though - they're beachfront, but with the crowded beach club, you're inviting everyone to see in. Also, I'm assuming that's their main pool? It's not really that impressive, and seems a bit (or extremely) small for the size of the resort.
As I mentioned, my friend liked it though, and said he would definitely pay to stay there, especially at the lower price point.
