I just returned from the NY Marriott Downtown. Just a quick 1 night stay -- as a Gold was upgraded to Hudson River view room on 34th floor, which was nice. I needed a room with 2 beds so an upgrade to a suite wasn't desired (but I may have been able to get one since the FDC asked if I really needed a room with 2 beds -- yes, I did). Our plans for this weekend were the 9/11 memorial & museum and the Statue of Liberty. This hotel is very convenient for both. We also walked over the Brooklyn Bridge and back, and it wasn't too far. Overall nice hotel and I would stay there again if my plans were in southern Manhattan/Brooklyn -- not sure I'd stay there if I wanted to spend my days and nights in midtown.
Lounge was closed but did get free continental breakfast in the restaurant. I posted in the CL thread, but CL is closed on weekends but you do get continental breakfast for 2 (rare in NYC, most hotels just give points):
Continental breakfast included coffee and juice (orange or grapefruit). The limited menu had FOUR options. You can pick TWO. My coupon was for TWO people (each pick two items)
1. Cereal (standard little box)
2. NY bagel with cream cheese
3. Plain yogurt with berries, granola, and honey
4. “bread basket” with a cream cheese Danish, muffin (was orange/cranberry), and croissant (all full size, not mini!)
I ordered a side of sausage (for some protein!) and was willing to pay the $4 but was told not to worry about it. YMMV
BTW all the food was excellent – really above and beyond what I was expecting. And it was SO MUCH -- esp if you get the bread basket + something else. At least I have 2 croissants and a muffin for breakfast this week
