There is also an issue of water. You don't want to be drinking the tap on some of those islands and you will need a lot of water, even after running only a mile.
With proper training, he/she should be fine. Then again, everyone's different too. As a long distance runner, I was trained to sip small amounts of liquid per mile (I sometimes bloat or cramp up if I drink too much water/gatorade). If he/she bought a large gatorade at GUM that should work. Just gotta drink a lot of water while flying in between too...
