Cancel your flights, and then use the "rebook" option when you have the new dates. You'll be required to pay $200 change fee per ticket + any applicable fare difference if the new flight is more expensive.
United won't let you cancel without a penalty just because your pet is ill. There's a reason why nonrefundable tickets are cheaper than refundable tickets...
