My "lack of understanding" on scam charges was heightened earlier this year when I was pricing reward tickets YYZ to Dubai and the charges were higher on a Y than they were on a J.
Hard to believe this would be related to actual charges incurred by AC, or that I should pay a higher fuel charge at the back of the bus.
In fact here is my post on that subject:
"I just priced out two reward tickets for a return trip YYZ-DXB next spring. I wanted to compare redemption levels and costs for business versus economy.
The difference in points I can understand (160,000 for two Y, 270,000 for two J), but the taxes, fees, and surcharges defy logic.
How does AC justify charging $1,439.72 on the Y ticket, and $822.72 on the J? A big difference is in the fuel surcharge - why does an economy passenger get hit with a higher (double) fuel surcharge compared to a business class passenger?"
