At a guess the taxi fare is about 250 Baht, plus 50 airport surcharge plus I think it's now 75 in tolls on the expressway (increased from 70 last year)

Don't sweat much over the fear of overcharging. Just convert the excess cost into your own currency for a reality check.

Google maps will tell you the distance. Check that the meter shows something like the correct number of km.
