Great trip report, BA First is really quite nice.
I believe BA do have microwaves fitted on their longhaul fleet but I am led to believe they are not used for meal prep. Instead, they use them to warm items in-between for snack service. They are quite small. For meal preparation they are using convection ovens which is probably why your waffles were crispy and moist at the same time
