I used my debit card at a Whole Foods in Seattle.
Next morning I get a call: "Are you in Liberia or Arkansas?"
Me - "Huh? Who is this?"
Caller: "National Bank of Arizona. You have two charges pending - one at a hotel in Arkansas and one at a store in Liberia."
Me: "Nope. I'm in Seattle."
Bank: "Oh. That explains it. We're canceling your card. You'll have a new one when you get home."
He never explained why "that explains it." But my takeaway was they get a lot of that activity in good Ol' Seattle. I s'pose any city where everyone wants to be Bill Gates may not be a good place to be randomly swiping cards! Now when I go up there and to any major city, I just take along a couple of gift cards. They steal that info, no permanent damage.
