The take is that AC is saying to YEG, you went out and drummed up business, that (may) hurt us so we will punish you. However, I don't blame the airline for cutting service if they are not making money, shareholders would expect that course of action. Dragging up the Iceland air service is a bit of a red herring. I doubt that Iceland air is costing Air Canada a lot of passengers since they are going after the low hanging fruit. It will take a lot of convincing that their hub in Reykjavik is any threat to your hub in LHR.
On the Journalism:
Both sides of the story were represented. The readers can make up their own mind. According to the text comment was sought by the media organizations, the airline did not or would not comment. The article contained a letter to the airport authority from Air Canada that backed up their allegations. It looks like the media organizations ( print and On-Line ) quoted from that letter in absence of a formal reply from AC.
