Would you recommend a stay at the Bristol Palace based on these aspects? I certainly prefer the location and "walkability" to the Hotel Continental. I take it there are no true luxury properties in Genoa that will meet our ideal criteria, so I wonder if this would be our best option for old world charm in the city?

Thanks again!
I will say that the hotel is properly maintained. However, if you do stay there, I do recommend that you get one of the suites since the pricing is not in the least prohibitive. It is centrally located for sightseeing and to the better shops in Genoa. There is a Max Mara store next door where my wife was a frequent visitor to during our stay at The Bristol Palace. Just be prepared for no spa or gym, no real restaurant, just a lounge off the bar and a separate breakfast room, no porter to help with your bags and spotty Wi-Fi service.
