But this is exactly the problem: you get charged $5/day PER RENTAL DAY, not per day on which you use a toll lane. This can add up quickly. So if you are planning, e.g., a week long trip, just using platepass once still means that you have to pay 7x5=$35 for the privilege of using it. That's why I'm having my own ez-pass and fastrak transponders and use them with rental cars. I'm not willing to pay the rip off prices that are charged by (all) rental car companies.
