It's a heartwarming story, but unfortunately there are plenty of circumstances in which AA would have cancelled the flight, too. Chances are they shuttled the aircraft to SEA because the cost of cancelling the flight -- in terms of accommodating passengers on other flights and/or other airlines -- likely was greater.
