The desirability of O&D vs. connecting traffic may start to shift based on how those types of flights are priced.
One thing I believe I am seeing now is a shift in connecting prices. It used to be that one would get a better deal by taking a one or two stop itinerary. It seems now that a lot of those one/two stop itineraries are pricing much higher than non-stop.
In effect, on many runs, the pricing rationale is shifting from market-based drivers to cost-based drivers.
