I would operate as it would kick in on the 7th day after buying the card. That should be enough time for most to get things done.

I'm guessing from date of purchase. Isn't it activated at the register when it's loaded? The PIN reset is just a matter of calling in to set it. Other than "purchase activation" I never register these.
