Stayed here with my family back in January for a week. The rooms are dated and could use upgrading. The beach is great. The shuttered Hyatt Cerromar beach hotel is adjacent to the Hacienda Del Mar and is surrounded by fencing. Weird to look at, but on the plus side, Hacienda del Mar has the beach to itself.
We stayed in a 2 bedroom unit which consisted of a one bedroom unit connected to a studio unit. Kitchen was large and well equipped. There is a SuperMax grocery store 10 minutes down the road for provisions. Resort has grills and picnic tables at the beach adjacent to the playground. There are tennis courts on site and there is a golf course next door. There is also a hut on the beach where you can rent jetskis, snorkel equipment etc. The onsite bar/restaurant is basic but fine for a sandwich in the sand and a drink.
It was pretty much all families there during our trip. I wouldn't recommend it for a romantic or couples only trip. For a laid back family beach vacation I'd return.
