Yes, that's a preference thing, I love bags without any outside pockets because I always have the Tumi Alpha latptop bag. If you are a one-bag person, this is not going to be as ideal.
If I do a simple overnighter, I only take the Tumi Alpha, expanded with Tom Bihn Absolute Shoulder Strap. I wear the suit and shoes for the next day and pack a change of underwear, shirt, and tie in a packing cube in the Tumi Alpha.
If I do a 2-3 nighter, I use a Victorinox Paratrooper tri-fold but I also have the Tumi Alpha. If I am doing a week long, I'll use this. But I never need pockets in the luggage. A traditional nylon or a hybrid roller would make more sense if someone wanted to do the one-bag thing, no doubt about it. If you are Costco, maybe take a look at their hybrid? There are better cases for one-baggers and the pockets and laptop areas make sense for them, for sure. Maybe there are better alternatives than Costco Kirkland, too.
I liked this case because it was half the price of the same thing in a luggage store. And the shell, wheels, zippers, handles seem comparable to others. Samsonite gets good reviews. Honestly, the $50 price tag for the performance is what drove my purchase. And will drive the next 3 (after I do a half dozen trips with it).
