In summary:
- Smaller bottles cost more to make than larger ones
- Most supermarkets only carry two liter size, so that is where intense competition exists among makers, who are willing to sell for a loss to increase market share.
There is no loss on a 100 JPY 2L bottle of water.......just not as much profit. The container costs are negligible as are the water costs.
