I currently have 2 free nights from the Hyatt credit card. We are traveling to Japan (Tokyo & Kyoto) in April and I want to use my 2 free nights at either the Park Hyatt Tokyo or the Grand Hyatt Tokyo. The only problem is that there are 3 of us and I called the Platinum line and per the T&C, was told that we could not book a free standard room for 3 people. I asked if we could pay the difference to a deluxe room and was told the certs have "no cash value" so I would need to pay outright for a deluxe room. The only other option given was booking two rooms. I understand the rooms there are much smaller than a Western hotel, but I'm not sure what to do. The CSR even stated that they hotel would turn away parties if the number of people was more than what the reservation said.

Any ideas?
I had a similar situation. I had two free nights and wanted to pay the difference in pts to upgrade to regency club access (Hyatt lost pines). I called HGP twice. First time they would not help me and told me that i could not do it. The second time they said they would put a request in and that I would need to call the hotel directly to confirm. I called the hotel and they confirmed they would upgrade me at no additional charge for those two nights.

YMMV of course, but i would say keep on calling HGP till you get a nice rep that wants to help and then call the hotel directly.
