The real question is - why maintain an "good" credit record/score that does nothing for you, when you can put it to work, improve it, and earn a few hundred thousand miles that (even after devaluations) can save you a boatload of money on travel?
If you don't need credit it really doesn't matter. If you pay cash for cars, house is paid off (or already have a good mortgage), your credit score is really just a number used to get more credit cards. If my credit score were to go from 800 to 500, all that means for me is i probably wont be approved for any more credit cards...
