When Delta originally launched the BusinessElite product, the configuration was to be 50 seats on the MD-11s and 777s and between 48 and 50 seats on the 767s (some of the 767s couldn't have 50 seats due to configuration issues). Part of the "sales pitch" for BusinessElite was that the elimination of International First Class and International Business Class, and the launch of the new product was resulting in an increase in the number of premium seats that would be available.
As I recall, Delta's old International Business Class cabins had 35-36 seats in them.
