If I had known, I would have booked with Delta. Rep said there could be a reversal of this decision, but I think she is just saying that to keep people calm.
Now obviously, the Citi Executive Elite card can give me the lounge access, however, I have really used and liked the Platinum benefit. These are some of those benefits that I have used in 2013 alone, give me pause to cancel:
1) Every year, I take the family to La Quinta Club and Spa in Palm Desert. I get upgraded each time to a Spa Villa (saving ~$300 per night), free breakfast every day (that runs around $90 a day, so for a 4 day stay means a $360 credit). Also, get the $100 resort credit.
2) This year, I lost my newly purchased iPad Air in the back of a cab in Dallas. Filed a report, $850 credited back within 7 days
3) Various Return Protection items - ~$120
4) $200 airline reimbursement
So, if I cancel and move to Citi Executive Elite, while I gain the AC access, I lose much more by not getting the other Platinum benefits.
I have visited the Centurion Lounge in DFW, and it is very nice. But LAX is my home airport. Even if Amex decided to ramp up their Centurion Lounges, how long will that take to open up. ~12-18 months?
While not making you whole, the $100 could be used toward a month long Admirals Club membership that would allow you to guest in your family.
