1K, denied entry into United Club in AMS

(This was originally started as its own thread, then merged into this somewhat related one.)

Here's the short summary

I'm a MM and current 1K.
My S.O. is the status match designee, thus she's a 1K.
She and my daughter were on a EWR-AMS-CPH itinerary.
EWR-AMS was on UA, AMS-CPH was on SK

She was turned away from the United Club at Schipol, and was told that she wasn't eligible since her continuing flight was on SK.

Here's the Official Policy from the Star Alliance website:
Star Alliance Gold Customers Travelling in Any Class

Customers have access to any Star Alliance member carriers' owned lounges with the Star Alliance Gold logo at the entrance.

* Customer must present proof of Star Alliance Gold level status via a valid frequent flyer program Star Alliance Gold level card or other valid indication of Star Alliance Gold level status - CHECK
* Customer must also present a boarding pass for travel on a Star Alliance flight departing from the local airport - CHECK
* Customer is entitled to one guest - CHECK
United and US Airways Star Alliance Gold customers may only access the United Clubs and US Airways Clubs within the U.S. when travelling in conjunction with a Star Alliance international flight. - N/A, this was in the Netherlands.

Am I missing something?
What can I do about this if I'm not missing some key detail?

(S.O. was hopping mad, you wouldn't want to be there... she's cooled a little now that she has her explanation.)
