What's better: $438 or 113,583 points?
I had a four night award reservation at a Hampton Inn, at a cost of 20,000 points per night.
I just changed it to a "Get double points" reservation. The question is am I better off having $438 in my pocket or 113,583 more points in my HHonors account?
The room rate is $96.12 per night, before taxes. That comes to 3844 base points.
I get a 50% My Way bonus and a 50% Diamond bonus = together, 3844 points.
The double points offer gives me another 3844 points.
The 4th Quarter bonus will come to 11532 points.
The full price, with tax, is 438.31, which I will pay with my Surpass card and get 5260 points.
Of course, I was refunded the 80,000 points for my award stay.
In total, that comes to 113,583 points. With the latest devaluations, is it better to have the money or the points?
