I have never had that kind of service but when I was working on a project for a few months. I was there m-f for three months and both the front desk and lounge staff new me on a first name basis when I walked in.
I have seen this at the Panama Marriott, there is a gentleman there (who must live at the hotel as I always see him there) who on his Birthday the CL staff had a Birthday cake waiting for him along with a card signed by the entire CL staff.
They also have his favorite Beverage choice ready for him and other little touches that make a hotel feel more like a home.
