EWR basically having only sLOTh and LH (for *A at least) left a lot to be desired for those traveling to Eastern Europe. Besides, it is soooo much easier to get to EWR than JFK for ½ of NYC and everything North West and South.
And LOT dropped EWR some time ago, with flights to NYC only, maybe OS is trying to pinch some connecting traffic that would prefer to use EWR.
