Only cc issued with the various extra security features like verify by visa and MasterCard Secure and the one by Amex do not need to show card. Amex and MC in Singapore does it by sending a code to your registered mobile phone which you then enter in the transaction process. Many other cards primarily the ones issued in the USA do not have these extra features.

Don't blame CX. Blame your credit card for not having these extra security procedures.
