You're wrong when you say no positive outcome can come from it. Are you saying the clerks are so dumb and lazy that they'll never review the list of IDs, even after you've left? That's true of some clerks, but not true of every clerk. And what of those who come after you? Some clerks at international terminals want to see passports, some think passports are not acceptable IDs on domestic flights. Any passenger who insists that the clerk accept an ID listed in the manual as an acceptable ID - who forces the clerk to act within the rules set out for him - does a service to others - to persons who don't want a clerk pawing through their passports, or to persons who wish, for one reason or another, to use their passports as their IDs.
I understand that some people live their lives following a philosophy of "whatever happens, don't make waves". That's not how I choose to live.
