Happened to me on a recent flight, the gate agent said "go board", so I sat down with the rest of the family in Y, assuming the upgrade wasn't going to clear, and just as we're ready to close the doors, the agent came on with the upgraded boarding pass, paged me, and I said goodbye to the family and sat in comfort for the next 5 hours...
