Because they called AC to get seat assignments and AC said they would not fly if the infant did not have a ticket. Did you even read the original post? Would you just show up at the airport then be told you can't fly as 1 of the 3 does not have a ticket unless you fork out $1800? Best to take care of these things before hand. Just ignoring it won't make it go away.
