This also gives you an extra day to allow for a rain-day-out.

Alternatively, spend Thurs. at Xcaret eco-park, or Xel-Ha. You can buy full day, all inclusive packages for these either in advance or once you're in PDC. Or just spend a half day there. If you really want to see an island, perhaps Cozumel would be fun--certainly closer to PDC than Mujeres.

Enjoy, and let us know how it went!
Thanks a lot for the suggestions. I realize Isla Mujeres was far and out of the way but the beauty of it is really attracting. Probably a 2 hour trip in and out. We are still debating about those parks, I feel they are a bit too touristy.

Have you decided whether you will rent a car at all; or buy a Mexican SIM card or will you add on Mexico to your existing cell phone plan for the time you are there?

If anyone else has a recommended car rental place, or whether to buy a MX SIM vs adding on the international voice/text/data services to ATT?

Gracias!
Where are you staying? I'm definitely taking ADO from the airport to PDC. What time are you flying in?

They usually rent snorkels for a small price, but if you want to save money, buy your own snorkel from Walmart PDC and take the Mini Vans that charge you $4 USD that depart 2 blocks behind the ADO station. You can spend half a day at Akumal snorkeling and sun bathing at that amazing beach and spend close to nothing.

On the other hand, if you want to spend more money, then Xcaret and Xel-Ha will do the trick, as others have recommended.
Enjoy your ultra cheap massage at the beach. Usually $20 - $30 USD for two full hours, depending where you go to from Canibal Royal-Playa Mamitas side to Ferry Departure Beach side.
Thanks for great ideas. I'll take ADO since it's my first time to Mexico and I might take a rental for the next trip.

I will look into Akumal and I'm definitely getting at least 3 massages.

The "real Mexico." There's a cenote very close to centro and also the most recently uncovered Mayan ruin is not far (sorry can't remember the name right now). It will be more natural and far less crowded than Chichen Itza, if you are up for two ruins.
Wow, thanks for the tips!

Did you guys exchange currency in your home towns? I'm coming from Boston so I was told to exchange for pesos at Logan.

My hotel offers $50/day all inclusive option. I'm considering it for 3 days when I'm not visiting Chichen Itza and Tulum. Thoughts? Will food/drink cost go much over $50 a day? Not going to chug margeritas like water, maybe 3-4 drinks a day I think.
