This is the problem with having a non-dedicated bus. Amtrak should be contracting for its own service that runs for its passengers in a market like this one.

This would seem like such an obvious candidate for a dedicated Thruway run. A once-daily, subject-to-delays LD train connecting via interstate highway to a major metropolitan area, with very little alternate transportation options (even the current code-share connection requires a cross-town self-transfer!).
Come on, Amtrak...why can't you make such obvious service enhancements? Why can you have dedicated Thruway buses to places like Shreveport and Bellingham but not one of the nation's largest cities (Phoenix)?
(I know, the answer probably has something to do with the state of Arizona not wishing to fund it)
