I think I can add value to this thread as I am under 21. For the last few years, beginning when I was 15, my parents have always purchased a UC membership for me online without any problem (system does not connect age with membership). Since having this membership, I have been turned away one time and it was at the (near) C121 UC at EWR. Even after pointing out my status she wouldn't budge, and I decided to not try and argue as she is just following policy. Other than this one instance I have never had a problem accessing UC and GF lounges in hundreds of other attempts. One suggestion I can give your son is to dress well. Every time I fly I wear a button down and nice slacks and never am questioned about age. I am also consistantly offered alcoholic drinks, but that is not relevant at this point. As long as he doesn't walk into the UC looking like a stereotypical teenager with athletic shorts and a baggy t-shirt with music blasting in his ears, generally he shouldnt have problems.
