I think if you call in, you end up talking to someone who really isn't knowledgeable about the whole deal and it may lead to an unfortunate cancellation when you would be getting the two for one fee anyhow.
Just to clarify in response to the last couple of posts -- I was
not paying $399 for the two cards. I was paying $499 for the AeroPlat and got the regular Plat for free. This is the opposite situation to what you're describing above.
And this was no "unfortunate cancellation"... the only reason I kept the AeroPlat card after I stopped using it a couple of years ago was because I was paying $499 for it AND the Plat instead of $399 for the Plat + $50 for the Mrs' supplemental Gold card. I was happy to pay the $50 for the 2-for-1 short haul reward benefit. When everyone got dinged with the $699 fee change, I was still paying $499 for both. I knew the free ride was going to end soon and decided that I'm happy paying $699 for the Plat card.
I was very clearly told that if I wanted to have both cards I'd have to pay the 2 fees. If your arrangement (where you pay the Plat's $399 fee and get the AeroPlat for free) continues, great, I'm genuinely happy for you. My AeroPlat hasn't left my house in about 2 years so I had no interest in fighting over it and the privilege of earning more useless Aeroplan miles.
