Given a choice between the JW Essex House and the Ren Times Sq which would be best for a special weekend where we will see Wicked on Friday night and probably do Il Mulino for dinner on Saturday night. Currently have reservations at the Ren but now thinking Essex House would be nicer. I think it would still be walking distance to the Gershwin. This is a points stay if that matters, but both are the same points for the stay.
As far as the location goes, The Essex house is fairly close to Il Mulino and I prefer that location. I enjoy walking around the city but usually my company prefers to take the subway or taxi instead of a walk from the Essex house to Wicked or the other theaters and you have a couple of good subway choices to get there.
I have stayed at the Marquis in Times Square many times but for the last year or so, I have been going to either the Essex house or the RCCP because of the location. We like the shopping in that area, Central park, good subway stops nearby, and having a good choice of restaurants, deli's, etc.
