I partially agree with this statement -- red is easier to make pop, but blue is not impossible. PanAm did a great job making blue iconic in the day, and KLM has done a decent job now. Emirates has even made BEIGE chic. It's about cut and styling (aka Fashion 101). UA could've gone with a light grey base in a slim/modern cut with striking blue accents/accessories, which would've been 100x better.
UA's uniforms aren't even close best-in-class:
